In a concerning turn of events, it has been discovered that the Reedley Chinese COVID Lab, an illegal laboratory run by a Chinese biotech firm, Prestige Biotech, received $360,000 in tax credits from Gov.
Newsom’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz). This lab was located in a warehouse in Reedley California and contained mice that were genetically engineered to spread COVID-19.
The news came to light when documents released on March 24, 2019 revealed the allocation agreement between GO-Biz and UMI.
In response to this discovery, Governor Gavin Newsom stated “I have zero tolerance for any activities of this nature…which is why I immediately ordered a full investigation into the facility as soon as we became aware of its existence.
The CDC conducted tests on the more than 800 chemicals found at the site and reported over 20 infectious agents were present including Hepatitis B and C, streptococcus pneumoniae, chlamydia, rubella and Herpes 1 & 5. ‘
While it is unclear how much money went towards funding the lab itself or if any other state agency had knowledge of its operation beforehand; what is clear is that it shouldn’t be up to taxpayers’ dollars to fund such concerning activities.
As National Review reported “It appears likely that some portion of these funds were used directly for operating costs associated with running an illegal laboratory”
