Senator Rand Paul has submitted an official criminal referral to the Department of Justice (DOJ), accusing Dr. Anthony Fauci, former head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, of committing perjury – a felony.
The accusation is based on an email sent by Fauci in February 2020 that was recently unredacted and shared by RealClearPolitics White House reporter Philip Wegmann.
The contents of this email suggest that “highly credible” scientists had expressed concerns about the novel coronavirus having been subjected to gain-of-function research at Wuhan University before its outbreak in China. Gain-of-function experiments are aimed at understanding how bat viruses adapt to human infection, heightening suspicions surrounding the virus’ origins even further.
Senator Paul took to social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to announce his criminal referral, claiming that Fauci’s statements made during a committee hearing contradicted everything contained in the aforementioned email.
He asserted that it was “absolutely a lie” which is why he sent out the official criminal referral for investigation by DOJ.
This directly contradicts everything he said in committee hearing to me, denying absolutely that they funded any gain of function, and it’s absolutely a lie. That’s why I sent an official criminal referral to the DOJ. https://t.co/Y191SmMiIr

In an interview, Senator Paul stated that there are contemporaneous documents from February 2020 in the midst of the pandemic’s onset which suggest that Dr. Fauci privately admitted to being suspicious that the virus originated from a laboratory performing gain of function research.
“Now we have in his own words admitting it was gain-of-function, admitting [NIH] funded it, and admitting that it gave them suspicion…that this pandemic actually came from a lab.”

In December 2020, Senator Rand Paul declared on FOX News that Republicans had caught Dr. Anthony Fauci in multiple lies and that he “won’t get away.”
Last month, The Gateway Pundit reported that Paul had referred Fauci to the Department of Justice for prosecution after a tense exchange between the two at a hearing in September 2021.
During this hearing, Fauci denied any involvement in the funding of gain-of-function research at Wuhan lab that likely caused Covid-19.
Furthermore, Paul warned Fauci that it was a criminal offense to lie to Congress under Section 1001 of the US Criminal Code.
