Police in Independence, Missouri have launched an investigation into a reported attack at a Walgreens store off 39th Street and Noland Road.
According to reports, the incident began with a female teenager repeatedly punching an elderly employee in her 60s before ultimately knocking her to the ground.
Video footage of the altercation captured the final moments of the attack, though authorities believe more took place prior to recording.
The senior victim was reportedly left with a head injury after striking the concrete walkway due to the force of being pushed down.
It all started after two teens, accompanied by another teen and an adult, entered a Walgreens store wearing different amounts of sunglasses.
According to a police report cited by WDAF-TV, only one of the teens was wearing sunglasses upon entering the store.
However, when they left the store, the teen who wasn’t initially wearing sunglasses had donned a pair. The employee noticed that the adult in their group refused to pay for them and then proceeded to refuse payment when asked.
Soon enough, they returned to the store where one of them grabbed a Sprite and sprayed it at the employee’s face.
This same teen then punched her multiple times while the other yelled in the background.
“I was shocked to see something like that,” Independence police spokesman Jack Taylor told WDAF, adding that “it’s kind of disturbing to watch.”
Police informed the station that they are still attempting to piece together the incident but require assistance in locating the teenagers observed in the video.
Officers further added to WDAF that the Walgreens employee is unharmed, however, wishes to press charges.
The station reported that they had contacted Walgreens yet noted that the company did not have a response.
Today’s youth is out of hand.
